My 2016 Stock Market Predictions & Economic Forecast

by Hank Coleman

My 2016 Stock Market PredictionsEvery personal finance writer, expert, pundit, and money blogger tries to make 2016 stock market predictions. I’ve made one for the past few years running.

So, once again, I thought that it would be fun to make my own stock market predictions for 2016 and keep the tradition going. As always, I will follow my stock market predictions throughout the year with regular updates each quarter.

Do you have any stock market predictions? Email me at Hank [at] MoneyQandA.com or leave a comment below, and we can track your stock market prediction as well throughout the year.

2016 Stock Market Predictions

Here are my 2016 stock market predictions. I’ve included several other macro economic and IPO predictions too. I have included ideas about which well known companies may go public, which companies may be acquired, and also what the overall economy and the federal government may do over the course of the next year.

2016 Stock Market Predictions

Here are my 2016 stock market predictions. I’ve included several other macro economic and IPO predictions too. I have included ideas about which well known companies may go public, which companies may be acquired, and also what the overall economy and the federal government may do over the course of the next year.

We will see how the year shapes out and will keep you up-to-date on how my 2016 stock market predictions fair.

  • Stocks will be flat throughout the year. Even after this wild first wild few weeks of the year, the stock market indexes will end about where they started the year on January 1st.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average will finish 2016 at 17,550 – a 3% increase from the beginning of the year. The S&P 500 will do the same ending 2016 at 2,110.
  • Apple will finally announce plans for a real TV.
  • Twitter will see a another company try and come in and buy it outright.
  • Blackberry will finally be acquired and continue to fade into oblivion. I know that I say this every year, but this is the year! I’m feeling it.
  • The price of oil will dip below $20 this year before rallying back to $40 per barrel by the end of the year.
  • The price of Gold will finish flat for the year around $1,100 per ounce.

Macro Economic Predictions For 2016

  • Unemployment will finish 2016 below 5.0%. It’ll end the year around 4.5%.
  • America will finally see a steady, healthy 3% inflation rate by the end of the year.
  • The Federal Reserve will continue to raise the Federal Funds Rate by a full 1% over several incremental raises throughout the year.
  • GDP growth in the US will be 2.5% in 2016.
  • The personal savings rate in America will continue to stay flat and finish the year at 5.5%.

Now, of course, no one really knows what the future holds, but I thought that it would be fun to have a little guess.

I like the idea of making some economic and 2016 stock market predictions for the new year. And, it will be very interesting once again to see how my stock market prediction pans out throughout the year.

Do you have a prediction for the S&P 500 or the Dow Jones Industrial Average this? I’d love to include it in the 2016 stock market prediction.
