Financial Lessons We Can All Learn Playing Candy Crush Saga

Candy Crush Saga

I have a confession to make. I’m addicted to playing Candy Crush Saga. I’ve even gotten my wife hooked too. So, as I’m sitting here waiting for the countdown clock to give me more lives, I can’t help be realize how you can find underlying financial lessons in the game.

Like many things in life, there are key take aways that you can find in almost anything that correlates to our lives and our finances. And, the game Candy Crush Saga is no different. There are a lot of financial lessons that can be learned from playing Candy Crush Saga if you stop and think about it.

Financial Lessons We Can All Learn From Candy Crush Saga…

Patiences Is Definitely A Virtue

It takes a lot of patience to play a game like Candy Crush Saga. You have to be patient for the candies to line up right. You have to be patient to know that it isn’t prudent to purchase all the extra “special” candies to try and beat a level.

The same is true with your finances. While there are no “special” candies with respect to your finances, there are plenty of pitfalls for not being patient. There are many times when I have wanted to sell a stock or an investment that isn’t panning out quite as fast as I’d like. But, having the patience to wait and sticking to your strategy pays off in the end.

It Pays To Think A Few Moves Ahead

Like chess and investing for your retirement, it pays to think a few moves ahead in Candy Crush Saga. You have to line up your moves to get those special candies. You know you want the striped candies, the one with the twisty ends, or the spotted ball one.

But, you have to plan out your moves ahead of time to get there. For example, if you are playing a game of Scrabble you might want to check out a word finder a few moves ahead, and it’s always a good idea to know what your options are.

What is the next thing that you need to save your money for? Are your children a few years away from their freshman year at college? Do you dream of owning a vacation home? Are you thinking a few moves ahead on your financial plan?

Sometimes You Have To Pay For The Things You Want

Much to my wife’s chagrin, I am not opposed to paying for a few of the special candies while playing Candy Crush Saga. I want to beat the level and move on. Sometimes when I get to the end of a section, I also don’t want to have to wait for my wonderful Facebook friends to give me a life to move on to the next level.

I recently have begun trading stocks again. It is short-term stock trading where I keep the stocks only a day or two. I really wanted to test the waters of short-term stock trading with a small portion of my investment portfolio.

Day Trading 101 by David Borman

But, I needed a guide. I needed a teacher. So, I’ve been reading Day Trading 101 by David Borman. And, I’m really enjoying the book. Day Trading 101 simplifies all the terms, strategies, and processes involved in day trading, helping even the most novice investor find financial success. With information on recognizing trading patterns, mastering trading options, keeping tabs on the market, establishing strategies to make the most profit, and understanding trading lingo, this guide can get you on track to becoming a smart investor.

We Can All Use Some Help Some Times

I hate asking my friends for help when I can’t beat a level on Candy Crush Saga. And, I hate asking for them to help me move on in the game when I complete the sub-levels. But, I am always pleased and very appreciative when a friend has sent me an extra life in the game.

Your finances aren’t much different. Good help is hard to find. And, it often costs you money. There was a time when I filed my own income taxes. Each year as I earn more income and start new business ventures, my family’s taxes become more complicated. I knew that I was in trouble and in over my head when I got a notice from the IRS that I had incorrectly filled out my 1040 form and they were issuing me a check for a LARGER income tax refund than I had requested.

That’s when you know you have completely screwed up when the IRS wants to give you MORE money! So, I have hired an accountant each year ever since. It is money well spent. I don’t mind paying for the things I need and getting the help I need.

Are you like me and millions of Americans who are obsessed with playing Candy Crush Saga? Are you stuck on a level like Level 97? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section.

  1. Plenty of games that can teach you some real-life lessons! Just think about classics like Transport Tycoon or other strategies/managers.

  2. Oh no! That is the one game I refuse to start playing because everyone says its so addicting. I’m already addicted to another puzzle game called Zookeeper. I’m sure it’s pretty much the same. In this game you line up 3 or more like animals.

  3. I can not stop playing Candy Crush. I swear there has to be a subliminal message behind it because I can’t even hear it mentioned or hear the song on the TV commercial with out immediately reaching for my phone–which I am itching to do now. For awhile, I use to shut my eyes to sleep and still see the stupid game. My boyfriend and I actually almost broke up over it because he would sit on his phone and read articles and I would sit and play candy crush and we would go on for awhile with out speaking when we were trying to spend quality time together. I guess that is a bit more of a unhealthy obsession than most lol. But I always love when you are sitting near somebody or walking down the street and you hear the candy crush music and for a moment you look at the person and acknowledge that you know they are playing candy crush. It is a moment of bonding with a complete stranger.

  4. I am also hooked on this game and got into the 137th level. And patience is really a virtue when it comes to playing this and when it comes to dealing finances in real life.
