How I Recently Invested in a Rock Band with Kickstarter

Invest in a rock band with Kickstarter

I’m always on the lookout for great alternative investment ideas to beat the stock market with about 10% of my investment portfolio. That is one of the reasons that I invest in Lending Club, precious metals, and a few other alternative investments. I’ve even looked to invest in a rock band.

It is a great way to spice up my investing, goose my rate of returns a little, and have a little fun too. Investing should be fun! That’s what keeps us engaged and motivates us to continue saving and investing for our other financial goals such as early retirement, sending our children to college, and others.

It is no secret that I am trying to learn how to play the guitar. It is one of my 100 goals before I die bucket list. I’ve been taking guitar lessons and absolutely love it. I love music and going to concerts. I will also let you in on another fact about me.

I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. And, like many South Carolinians, I’m pretty proud of my home state and anything remotely related to it. My wife still picks on me because I’m a diehard Hootie and the Blowfish fan. I’m loyal. What can I say?

Now there is another rock/pop band from Charleston that is hugely popular in South Carolina and the southeast called Crowfield. If you haven’t heard some of their songs, you should definitely check them out. Their last album, Crowfield, was released last June and is available on Apple iTunes. (The song Midwestern is my absolute favorite!)

How To Invest In A Rock Band

Crowfield is looking for investors to help them record and release their next album. So, the band has turned to the website Kickstarter to let their fans get involved in the process and to continue to support them. You can check out Crowfield’s Kickstarter project to find out all the information about their new album and how you can help them.

For as little as $15, they will send you a free digital download of the new album too. So, it is a can’t lose since I would have bought the CD anyway.

If you invest more with the band’s project, there are other great rewards such as autographed memorabilia, t-shirts, your name in the album credits, and much more. For as little as $1,250 you can receive live performance from the band in your house!

What Is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Every week, tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to help fund projects for music, film, art, technology, design, food, publishing, and other creative fields.

Kickstarter is a new form of both commerce and patronage. This is not about investment or lending specifically because project creators keep 100% ownership and control over their work. Instead, they offer products and experiences that are unique to each project. Like copies of their albums or free products that they invented.

There are tons of other great projects on Kickstarter that you can invest in too. Do you want to support inventors and receive one of their products for free? Do you want to find ways to support a new documentary movie? A local theater troop? An artist?

There are a lot of great things that you can support Kickstarter. It is an awesome website and opportunity to do something a little bit different with your investing.

Have you ever invested in a project on Kickstarter? I’d love to hear about your experiences.

  1. That is cool. I have heard of the site but haven’t used it since I am trying to pay off debt. By the way, just got back yesterday from Santee, South Carolina from a week of golf. The weather was nice. We also played at Pine Forest Golf Club which is closer to Charleston.

  2. I’ve invested in a small rooftop farm in Chicago through Kickstarter. I love ideas like Kiva, Kickstarter and Lending Club. Away from entrenched institutions, and power to the people!

  4. Does Kickstarter have similar restrictions in certain states as LendingClub does? Great idea as additional way to spice up your investments.

    • I don’t think so. It uses Amazon for its payment system instead of PayPal or its own proprietary payment system. It is not a true investment in the strictest sense of the word. You do receive benefits for investing, but you won’t receive money back plus interest.
